Phase 1 - Purchase of Property in 1997
Previously called "Bombay Grab" - A pub, named after a specific ship that belonged to the East India Marine. It was first established in 1805, and was built in its current structural form in 1933 when the local area was redeveloped. The pub was closed in 1992 when it became a free house. It was then purchased in 1997 in a vandalised state and converted to a Mosque by the following year by Maulana Kutub Uddin Ahmed Shikder (MBE). Below is a pre-1933 photo, before it was built in its present form.
Below, is a photo of the property in its rebuilt form, but before its refurbishment and Mosque-transformation in 1998. The name of the pub, "Bombay Grab" can be seen on the roof-top.
A lot of interior, exterior refurbishment and decoration brought the derelict property to state suitable to function as a Mosque and community centre
for the growing local Muslim community.
